Here’s a mark-your-calendar event for my friends near Gig Harbor and greater Kitsap.
Kindie rock group Recess Monkey is releasing a brand new album-Deep Sea Diver- and they’re having a FREE party at the Naval Undersea Museum this Saturday, June 15th. Woot!
I’ve written about this museum before. If you’ve never been, add it it to your summer bucket list. It’s full of interesting things for kids to do and touch, and they might even learn some history and science. Plus, it’s Free! (Yes, it’s nice to leave a donation). If Bremerton is more than a quick drive for you, considering taking a ferry from Seattle to add to the fun.The pic below is of Henry at the museum-I think he’s listening for enemy submarines!
But, back to Recess Monkey…If you haven’t discovered this group yet, you really should. Their music is totally kid friendly, but cool enough for grown-ups. They’ve been compared to artists like the Beattles and Brian Wilson, and parents find their music just as catchy and danceable as their kids do. What I really like about their songs is that you can tell the guys (all elementary school teachers!) just, “Get,” kids. The boys and I really enjoyed the songs on this new release. Several have sea life themes, which seems just right for this area. Henry loved, “Walkie Talkies,” because he loves walkie talkies, and anything related to super secret undercover spy stuff. I loved The Deep End, and if you’ve ever tried to coax/cajole/bribe a kid into his swim lesson, you’ll feel like it was written just for you, too!
Their free concert is at 10:30-first come, first served. I do think you’ll want to arrive early.
Can’t wait to hear the new stuff? You’re in luck! The guys sent over a copy of their new CD, and I’m giving it away to one lucky winner!
I’m keeping this giveaway easy-peasy, too. Just leave a comment letting me know your favorite Recess Monkey tune. If you don’t have one yet, head here and check out the video for tambourine submarine and let me know what you think of it! I’ll announce the winner Friday morning, so you have plenty of time to enter, but I’d just do it now! Good Luck!
