Update May, 2017: I spoke with someone on the Bonney Lake City Council and the missing Gnome Doors have been replaced. I have found 7 out of 10 doors so far, and I didn’t even use GPS. Because of previous vandalism, some of the doors are placed higher up on trees, so tell the kids to look up! This is a really fun activity and will get families outside. Many are located in parks, so it makes for a fun outing. If you find all 10 doors, go into City Hall and receive a special pin.
Have you heard about the gnomes moving into Bonney Lake?
I hadn’t either, but reader Robin tipped me off to what just might be the cutest idea to ever come out of a parks and recreation department.
Hidden around Bonney Lake, mostly in area parks, are gnome doors! You can hunt for them by using your GPS, like you would if you were geocaching.
I’m not clear on whether there is a clever gnome near each gnome home, but either way it’s pretty much the cutest thing ever! You should dress for play if you go hunt for gnome doors, as they like to make their homes in woodsy places. To get started, you’ll need to solve the first riddle or use your GPS, to locate door number one!
You can find that here at the Bonney Lake Parks and Recreation page, or there is lots of information and super cute pics at the Bonney Lake Gnome Facebook page.
We thought this would be a fun adventure. Since we had to do a little exploring or playing at each location along with our gnome search we only looked for 5 doors. We could only find 3 out of those 5, It was still a lot of fun, but be aware that if you can’t find the door, it may be because it’s not there.
Thanks, Sherry! I’m glad you had fun. I’ll try to find out if the other doors are there or have wandered off. Do you remember which locations were missing doors?
