A quick reminder for my Puyallup readers about this great offer from the Puyallup Public Library. As part of the library’s ten year celebration, you can pay off your overdue fines with donations for the food bank! Each item you donate can pay off 1.00 worth of fines. If you’re a savvy shopper, you can save yourself some money and help those in need at the same time. The flyer has a list of most needed items, including peanut butter, canned meats like tuna and chicken, soups, canned fruits and veggies, and kid friendly items like mac and cheese dinners. Do note that this offer only applies to overdue fines, not money owed for lost or damaged items. If you’ve been reading SFM for a while, you know that rounding up library books is a never ending battle here, so we’ll definitely be taking advantage of this opportunity.
Now, I know many of you use other libraries. If yours is in the PCL system, hopefully your kids took advantage of the offer to pay down their fines as part of the summer reading program. They did have a previous fine amnesty period a couple of years ago, but my sources tell me that probably won’t happen again (Boo!). If you’d like to see your library do a food for fines deal, my best idea is to let ’em know! Send an email or a tweet or drop a line in the ‘ol suggestion box!
