Good news for Tacoma preschoolers!
The district has just announced that an additional five, Free, half-day preschools will open at select Tacoma elementary schools in September.
The preschools are being funded from Title I money, that until this year was tied to specific No Child Left Behind requirements. Now that they don’t have those restrictions, they’re investing in preschool. Editorial alert: I think it’s a great decision!
To enroll in the preschool, you must live in a particular area of Tacoma, and your child must meet minimum age requirements and take a brief test. All the scoop is in the press release right here. If you’re not sure about what boundary you’re in, or have other questions, just give the office a call at 253-571-1111.
I just called yesterday about preschool but I mentioned Head Start when I did. I wonder if I need to make a second phone call to ask specifically about this program? Thank you either way for providing this info!!! You’re the best!
My son was in Whitman’s Title 1 Preschool last year and it was an amazing experience. Two veteran teachers teach it and are so sweet with the kiddos and they learned a ton. He is beginning to read going into Kindergarten. This is a wonderful decision for the school district. It really prepares kids for Kindergarten:)
Awesome! Thanks for sharing that. I hope his kindergarten teachers are ready for him! 🙂
Hmmm….Well, Head Start/Eceap comes from a different money pool, but I’d think if you asked for preschool info. they’d tell you about whatever was available. I guess my answer depends on what they told you! If you’re within the boundaries of a school served by a Title I program,I think I probably would call and ask specifically about this. Tell them you just read the press release about it from TPS.
