The boys and I got to check out the Tacoma area’s newest hot spot for kids’ indoor play, UPlay Town Center at the Frog and Kiwi Cafe in University Place.
We’d been there all of five minutes when Henry announced, “I want to come here Every day!” I guess we can call that a 4 star review!
UPlay Town Center shares a wall with The Frog n Kiwi cafe, a bistro style cafe with a fire place, free wifi, and upscale coffee shop eats. There is an insulated wall separating this space from the play area, so if you pop in for a little grown-up time with a friend, you’ll never know there are kids on the other side.
To reach UPlay Town Center, you enter through a coded door at the back of the cafe. It’s 6.99 for your first kiddo, and 4.99 for each additional child. You an also save by buying a 10 visit pass. Babes one and under are free with a purchase from the cafe, so if you’ve got one of those, get yourself a little treat-you’ve earned it! Cafe purchases aren’t required to use the play area, but you’re welcome to take them in. There are several cute tables to sit at, and the kids will find plenty to occupy themselves. I was able to have a whole cup of coffee and a grown-up conversation before I had to get up to ask Henry not to take the shopping cart up the climbing wall.
It’s a cozy space, and if you seat yourself strategically you’ll be able to keep the kids and the exits in sight at all times. The big attractions are a climbing mountain and a wooden play structure, but there are also a variety of riding toys for younger kiddos, as well as puzzles and imaginative play toys from Melissa and Doug. The space is designed for kids 48″ and under, and I think kids up to 8 would have a grand time here. During our visit there was another boy about Henry’s age as well as some littler ones, and they all found plenty to do.
Do keep in mind that the play area is not staffed, except during parties, so you need to go in and keep an eye on your troops (grown up admission is free). Everything was shiny clean, and I was glad to hear that the toys are thoroughly disinfected every morning.
The Frog and Kiwi Cafe is right next to the University Place Library. If the parking out front is full, head just down the slope to the garage. You can check out UPlay Town Center for yourself for FREE this Saturday at 11AM at their grand opening. Kids can play for free, and you can enter to win some great prizes. While you’re there, you may want to talk to Marc about their party packages. I know a thing or two about what this area has to offer for the preschool party scene, and I just know this place will be a mega hit once the rainy season starts. I’ll remind you about the grand opening in my weekend list, or check out their Facebook page to stay in the loop.
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, but the opinions are my own. I’d love for you to tell Marc and Kelly you read about UPlay on Sounds Fun Mom!
