The Weekend List: South Sound Fun for Kids and Families for June 22nd-24th!

Here it is….a great big list of weekend fun for kids in Puyallup, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Sumner, Fife, and Your area of the South Puget Sound!

Before we get going, if you’re one of my weekend only readers (You know who you are), you might have missed the announcement about the first ever Sounds Fun Mom reader event. Make sure to read all about it, and get your tickets soon! More than half are gone already!

Friday

Auburn Kids’ Day 11-4 Free day of fun for kids-bounce houses, face painting, kids’ entertainers. Bring money for food vendors and pony rides. You can read more in my post here.

Mommy and Me Crafts at the Ben Franklin in Bonney Lake Moms and preschool age (and younger) children are invited for crafts and social time. 5.00 Arrive between 10 and 11;ends by 11:30; drop ins welcome if space is available

Get your feet wet! with Harbor Wild Watch at  Penrose   Join volunteer naturalists on a beach walk; see if you can spot critters revealed by low tides 12-4 today

It’s Prairie Days in Yelm  Carnival and vendors 11AM-6PM

Read with a dog at the Puyallup Library Kids can drop in between 1:30-2:30 to practice their skills with patient listener, Bruiser (He only sounds tough!)Don’t forget to sign up for the summer reading program while you’re there!

Movies in the Park Free showing of How to Train Your Dragon at Meridian Habitat Park on South Hill Movies start at 9PM Pre-show activities and games begin at 7. Bring a chair; concessions for sale

Saturday

All Over

Most Farmer’s Markets are open. Get your fresh on!

Lowes Build and Grow Advance registration required for these popular, free programs. It’s a Madagascar themed assault vehicle today. 10AM  Through the summer, these will also be offered on Sundays.

Passport to Imagination Craft at Michael’s cat from Poland; this one does require supply purchase. 1-4PM

South King County

Touch A Truck – Tukwila 11am to 3pm; Free event. Kids can explore trucks of all types with help from the professionals who use them. Vehicles on display may include construction trucks, utility vehicles, emergency responders, buses and semi trucks. Tow Mater from Disney’s Cars will be on hand for photo opportunities for a fee that will benefit projects by the Tukwila Rotary. Thanks, ThriftyNWMom.  I totally missed this one. Geesh….

Families can visit the restored Mary Olson farm in Auburn for free on Saturdays and Sundays all summer

US Olympic Team Diving Trials at the Weyerhauser Aquatic Center in Federal Way

Water Weekends at HCC Mast at Redondo Every Saturday you can get up close with critters in the touch tanks and learn about sea life. Today, from 11-1 you can attend the Octopus Graduation Party Free

Bonney Lake/Sumner/Puyallup

Magician Jeff Evans performs at the Bonney Lake Library  11AM

Welcome Summer at the Sumner Library 10-2 Drop in and make a craft, enjoy a snack, play with some Duplo, and get signed up for summer reading.

Free kids gardening class with the master gardeners at the WSU extension in Puyallup. Today’s theme is Mr.MacGregor’s Garden ! 1PM Click on, “Children’s Programs,” for a pdf schedule.

Tacoma

Grand Opening of the wave pool at Kandle Park in Tacoma; Admission is free today!

Tacoma Urban Coop Tour While not specifically a kids’ event, if you’ve been thinking about raising chickens in the city, I’d say this is a must-do for the whole family!

Crafts from the Past at Ft.Nisqually  Each weekend, a different 19th century craft will be demonstrated. Included with regular admission.

Free Showing of the Adventures of Tin-Tin at the Tacoma Public Library

Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula

Get your feet wet! with Harbor Wild Watch Join volunteer naturalists to walk and explore the beach  at Kopachuck from 1-4PM

Summer Reading Art Event at the Gig Harbor Library  Drop in and create some art between 10:30 and 2PM

Life on a Colonial Lavender farm The Blue Willow Lavender farm on the Key Peninsula welcomes visitors every Saturday through August with costumed actors recreating life on a colonial lavender farm. Free admission; variety of lavender goodies available for purchase.

Slug Fest at Northwest Trek Special weekend of slug themed fun at trek. All activities are included with admission. Admission to Trek is steep; SFM recommends springing for an annual pass if you’d go two or more times. There are combo. options that include the Pt.Defiance Zoo you may want to consider. Also on Sunday

Olympia/Yelm/Buckley- and places that go together in my head. 🙂

Buckley Log Show Watch a variety of logging themed competitions! Also Sunday

Visit the LOTT WET Center in Olympia Every Saturday the center is open with free, science and environmental education activities

Lego Building Event and Summer Reading Kick-Off at the Olympia Barnes and Noble 2PM Build with Lego; pick up a free journal; get signed up for the Barnes and Noble reading program. Sign up early in store to hold your spot.

Sunday

Tour de Pierce Bike Ride  Day-of registration will run you 17.00/person or 51.00 for a family of four, but it’s a flat, scenic bike ride with routes suitable for families. Check the link for lots of helpful rules and information.
