I’ve been meaning to write about the fun and free events at Learning Sprout Toys for ages. My friend Barb even nicely reminded me.
Finally, after she bragged on Facebook about the adorable crafts her kids made there Saturday, I got into gear. Thanks, Barb!
Learning Sprout is in the heart of downtown Tacoma. It has two stories, which gives it a Santa’s workshop quality, and it’s jam packed with quality playthings-lots of wooden toys, Playmobile, and creative and educational items you won’t find at your average big box store. Your kids’ eyes will pop out of their little heads.
Mondays from 11AM-4PM is Lego discovery day, when the kiddos can drop in and enjoy a little Lego or Duplo time.
Wednesdays two to four year olds can attend tot time at 10:30. Kids will enjoy puzzles, finger play, and games. Juice and cookies are provided.
Thursdays are creation station days with art activities available from 10AM-5PM
Playdays are the third Saturday of the month. These typically feature a particular brand or item and there is sometimes a small fee. The next one is a Playmobile event. Every child gets a free paper crown, stickers, and tattoos. If you spend 30.00 or more on Playmobile there is a free bonus gift, too.
Fun with Arts and Crafts is the 1st Saturday of the month. I forgot to tell you about the last one, but I promise to remember next time. These feature free make and take craft projects with all the materials provided. I know-how cool is that?? These events are from 10AM-2PM for kids 2-10
I do recommend you check the Learning Sprout Facebook page (while you’re over there you could like the SFM page, too), or give a call before you head to any of these, as small store events can be subject to change. Learning Sprout is on Pacific-sort of at the end of it, right before you can’t go straight any longer. There is angle parking in front of it, but don’t forget to bring some quarters.
Finally, let’s address the elephant in the room-you know, the one tugging on your wallet. Yes, you will be in a toy store. There is a 100% chance that your kids will ask for something. Decide ahead of time what your plan is. Henry and I attended a birthday party here (yes, they do birthday parties), and we actually managed to leave without buying anything, so it is possible. Like I said, just go in with a plan.
