The Weekend List: South Sound Fun for Kids and Families for October 21-23rd

Here it is….a great big list of weekend fun for kids in Puyallup, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Lacey, Olympia, Auburn, Sumner, Fife, and Your area of the South Puget Sound!

If you’re headed north or south, you’ll want to check out the fantastic list over at ThriftyNWmom compiled by super bargain sleuth Sia of Centsible in Seattle.

If you’d rather stick to family and kids’ events around the South Sound, I’ve got your list right here. One note: There is No apple picking at Terry’s Berries this weekend. They got all picked out! I’ll let you know if the orchard opens again.

Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Show Kids 10 and under are free; adults are 13.50 for a pass good all weekend-coupon in today’s TNT or at their website. Shop for a variety of food and gifts. Santa will be there select hours (!!)

Just Between Friends kids’ consignment event at the Puyallup fairgrounds. There are free admission postcards at spots all around town, or head over to The Coupon Project to find out how to score one Plus a coupon for 2.00 off your purchase.

Saturday

Salmon Spotting Join naturalists from the friends of the Cedar River Watershed to view salmon returning to spawn at locations through out South King County. *Look for a full list of area salmon viewing here at SFM next week.

Lowes Build and Grow It’s a Halloween Monster Truck! Advance registration required or these popular, free programs.

Star Wars Character Meet and Greet at Titus Will in Olympia 11-2  Come meet your favorite Star Wars characters. Thanks, Centsible in Seattle and ThriftyNWmom.

Symphony on Wheels at the Dupont Library  Children get to learn about and try out a variety of musical instruments. Free tickets available day of the event. A collaboration with the library system and the Seattle Symphony. Rotating around area libraries. This one requires registration and there are just two spots left. Go now if you’re interested. For ages 4 and up.

HC MAST water weekends at Redondo-The center is open again every Saturday from 10-2. Kids can touch sea critter in the tanks and learn about other aquatic animals. See the new octopus!  Free  Redond

It’s Make a Difference Day Search for volunteer opportunities by zip code. If you don’t find one near you, call your Parks Department. I almost guarantee there is a project in your neighborhood. Good opportunity if you have children who need service hours. Arrive early if you want the, “Good,” jobs!

Spooky Stories at the Bonney Lake Library 2PM  Halloween themed stories told by the Fireside League Suitable for the whole family (or so says the brochure). No registration needed.

Fall Craft Day at the Sumner Library There are two crafts: Tote Bag Decorating for all ages and Cuddle Pillows for teens and adults. Registration required; links will take you there. Only two spots left in cuddle pillows right now.

2.00 Family Movies at the Galaxy Theater in Gig Harbor A partnership between the theater and Police Department benevolence programs. Money goes towards the holiday helper program. Today’s show is Madagascar II. Doors open at 9:30; show at 10:00.

Monster Mash Preschool Dance Party at the main branch of the Tacoma Public Library

Story time at Kitsap Barnes and Noble Also in Olympia Find your store and check for details and call to confirm  Free

Who Goes Bump in the Night? Nightime walk and animal encounter at the Tacoma Nature Center for kids over 5 and their grown-ups. Crafts and snack  5-8PM  2.50 per child/adults free

Woof, Woof Walk Bring your costumed canine pal for a fun walk around Spanaway Park. 20.00 for the 1st dog

Black Cat Fun Run Choose 2.5 or 5 mile course around 5 mile drive at Pt.Defiance  35.00 includes long sleeve t, glow sticks, and beverages. Walkers, kids, and dogs are welcome. This is an evening run, and the course is Dark-be sure to read the info.  7PM

Ride the Pumpkin Express with Mt.Rainier Scenic Railroad   Pricey, but I’ve heard it’s fun.

Haunted Theater at the Tacoma City Ballet Special back stage tours of specially decorated rooms.  Costumed dancers and a performance. Children are invited to wear costumes. The theater is Beautiful. Don’t be scared by the title-this is an event most children preschool age and up will enjoy. My friend Christy went last year with her 5 year old and said it was Amazing!  Tickets are 5.00 and performances are select Friday, Saturday, and Sundays from the 22nd-30th. There are two showtimes today.

Pumpkin Jubilee at Watson’s Nursery in Puyallup  Free face painting, crafts, and refreshments   Right down the street from Filbert Acres if you’d like to get a pumpkin from a small, organic farm.

Auburn Avenue Players Presents the Wizard of Oz Tickets 13.00-15.00 or save a couple bucks by purchasing them in advance.

Hoot n Howl at Northwest Trek Special Friday and Saturday event at NW trek with nightime tram rides and treats and activities.  We’ve done this before. Honestly? The boys loved it, but I thought the tickets were steep. The tram ride is pretty cool, just do keep in mind that you’re not going to see a lot of creatures because, well, it’s Dark! You’re welcome to weigh in if you think differently.

Sunday
