Have a Wild Night at the Nature Center This Weekend: Not-at-all-spooky events for the family.

October 18, 2011 by Maegen Blue

There are two unique events at the Tacoma Nature Center this weekend, and you may want to reserve your spot at one now.

There's no telling what creatures you'll find, but I be you'll have fun looking!

The first is on Friday, the 21st. It’s called Creatures of the Night, and it’s a special event just for young children 5 and under and their favorite grown-ups. Everyone gets to enjoy a short hike, activities, and a special snack as they learn about nocturnal animals in a not-at-all spooky way. Children are 2.50 and adults are free. There is space for 150, and Debbie doesn’t anticipate it filling, But she’d love for you to make a reservation anyway, both to hold your spots and to help them plan. This one is in the evening from 5-7. You probably won’t want to stay the whole time, but I always suggest getting to stuff like this early so as to have plenty of art materials and snack!

The very next night, the 22nd, bigger kids and the whole family can come to Who Goes Bump in the Night. This event features similar activities, plus encounters with animals from the Pt.Defiance Zoo. It’s for the 5 and up set and it’s scheduled for 5-8.

If you have questions about any these events, just give the friendly nature center staff a call. If you haven’t been there recently, make plans to visit during daylight hours, too. The Discovery Playground is excellent, and the small exhibit center inside has been recently renovated. Plus, there are miles of flat, easy trails to explore. Best of all, it’s all free (though it is nice to leave a donation).

I’m working on rounding  up a list of other Halloween themed activities. I know I’m cutting it close-talk about spooky!
