If you’re looking for great playgrounds near University Place, Lakewood, or Tacoma, be sure to put this one near the top of your list!
Where are you headed? The Playground by the Sound at Chambers Creek in University Place. It’s not new any more, but it’s still terrific, and now that the US Open has left town, it’s open for play. If you haven’t discovered it yet, it’s definitely worth adding to your go-play list!
The playground went in thanks to an amazing crew of volunteers. Henry and I first checked it out on a warm, spring day.
The verdict? My budding hipster said, “Totally awesome.”
Style wise, it’s a bit like the “castle park,” at Fort Steilacoom, only it’s scaled down and much more open, so you won’t lose sight of your guys. There is an area for the under 5 set, and both sections have swings and lots of climbing apparatus. I think it’s just about perfect for 4-9 year olds. Younger kids will enjoy it, but I think most of the obstacles in the bigger section will be too tricky for them. I think older ones just won’t find it challenging or big enough. Feel free to let me know if you think I’m full of beans.
If you haven’t checked out Chambers Creek, it’s an amazing community resource, with great trails, and seriously, is there a playground in America with a better view?
You’ll find the playground in the north meadow area. You can Mapquest it with this address: 4870 Grandview Dr W, University Place.
