First, I want you to know that I’m quite certain someone has thought of this idea before, so please don’t think I’m claiming original crafty rights here. Like most of my ideas, it’s not exactly rocket science! With that out of the way….
One of my goals for the summer is to make sure Henry is ready for kindergarten. Unlike my older son, he is not one of those kids who just loves to read and learn-at least not in the, “school,” way. So, I’m constantly trying to find sneaky ways to reinforce pre-K skills.
Today we went on an alphabet photo safari. He got to be in charge of the camera, which is my secret boredom buster on outings with both boys. We walked all around the neighborhood hunting for alphabet letters, and we made it all the way to J before he wanted to quit. Not bad….You could vary this any number of ways. Kids could photograph things that started with particular letters (F for flower, H for house, etc….), or just the letters in their name… whatever suits your fancy.
You could also make prints of your shots and frame them. I’ve seen sites selling similar things for big bucks. My sister took pictures of the numbers in their street address on a trip to Europe and framed them in a collage mat for their entry way. So clever!
Have you got a great way to sneak in some learning? I’d love to hear about it!
