Ongoing Summer Activities
Free summer reading programs at all area libraries. Kids keep track of time spent reading (or being read to) and earn prizes! All libraries offer tons of free events in conjunction with these programs. I include some of these in my weekly list, but not all of them due to space restrictions. *** Hint: This is an Especially big week for libraries. If you see a program that sounds fun at one library, it’s probably coming to yours, too!
Spraygrounds in many areas are open.
New this week: The fun squad is back in Puyallup.
Just Say Yes to Drums! Kids 6 and up can listen and play drums from around the world with Simone LaDrumma. Lakewood Library 1PM This event will make its way to other PCL libraries later this week. Check the calendar.
Puppet Theater Presents Ferdinand the Bull and Jack and the Beanstalk for kids 6 and up at the South Hill Library Shows at 1:00 and 2:30 Free; no registration required Program will be at other area libraries later in the week. Check the calendar.
Kids’ Club at Cedarview Park Bonney Lake park presents free kids’ concerts Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings. This evening’s show is The Reptile Man. 6:30PM Free
The 6th avenue Farmer’s Market has opened for the season. Get your fresh on every Tuesday!
Going Global Juggling comedy show at the Sumner library at 2:00 PM Stop in at the library before for free, required tickets. This event will be at other Pierce County Libraries late in the week. Check the calendar for the branch/time near you.

Make it; Take it Event at Michael’s It’s bears and nesting dolls inspired by the culture of Russia-part of their Passport to Fun program 11AM-2PM Free for ages 3 and up
Car seat safety checks Free weekly check at Mary Bridge in Tacoma. Link has contact info. for fire stations and other sites for seat inspections.
It’s 1.00 day at the Starplex in Federal Way (tickets are just 2.00 other days). See link at the top of this post for more 1.00 movies.
World Storytelling Safari Summit library at 10:30 All ages event with global music and stories from around the world. Free; no registration required Event will be at other libraries later this week. Check the calendar.
Kids’ Club at Cedarview Park in Bonney Lake Performances every Tuesday at 11AM Free It’s the very cool kindie rock group Recess Monkey today.
Mom and baby class at Good Samaritan Two class times for moms and babies 0-12 months 3.00
Summer Sounds at Skansie Concerts by the water in Gig Harbor every Tuesday evening. Not geared towards children but family friendly Country rock band, Tupelo
Whoopee It’s Wednesday! Family programs offered weekly at the Foss Waterway Seaport. Today’s is a chance to see sea life brought up by a scuba diver and ask questions. 12.00 for one adult and up to 3 children ages 7 and up. Call to reserve your spot. 12-2
Winnie the Pooh Party at the Garfield Book Company at PLU Register in advance for this free celebration in honor of the upcoming Winnie the Pooh movie. For ages 2-6 Games, activities, face painting and more!

Auburn Kids’ Summer Stage Free Wednesday kids’ concerts at noon through August 10th. Les Gove Park Be prepared for your kiddos to want to play on the playground and in the sprayground-you may want suits. Today’s performance is kindie rock group, Caspar Babypants.
Wednesday’s for Kids Every Wednesday enjoy free kids’ entertainment at Town Square plaza in Kent 12-1 There are fountains kids may want to get wet in. Roberto the Magnificent performs this week. Top children’s entertainers all summer!
The Uncivil War With Nick Adams Part of the Puyallup library’s summer reading program. This free event for kids in grades 4-9 features local author Nick Adams, talking about his ancestor’s experience in the Civil War and how it inspired his book about grade school rivals. Books available for sale and signing. 3PM
It’s Safety Day with the firefighters from Central Pierce Fire and Rescue Meet firefighters and make pocket reflectors. Low cost helmets available for purchase. Free event; no registration required Summit Library 11AM-1PM
Where the Wild Things Are Movie and crafts at the South Hill library Part of an ongoing series of activities in conjunction with a special display of Maurice Sendak’s art at the South Hill Library 2:30

Learn to Draw Four Famous Buildings Part of the Puyallup Library’s summer reading program. Local artist teaches kids’ to draw four famous landmarks. Free, designed for kids in grades 3 and up. 3PM
