Here’s a Sounds Fun Mom, “Who knew?”
Did you know that many toy and game manufacturers will let you order replacement parts? Missing the funny bone to Operation? Lost the grid for your battleships? Rather than tossing the thing in the garbage or making a not so great donation to the Goodwill, just spend a few dollars to order the pieces you’re missing! Ta-dah! It’s like a whole new game. Now, not all companies do this, and some supply certain parts but not others. The simplest thing to do is flip over your box, check the company, and do a quick Google. Hasbro is one of the largest companies, and they now own Parker Brothers and Monopoly. They have an extensive list of replacement parts.
Now, if you add in shipping, you might be getting close to the cost of just buying a new one, but this is one area where I’m willing to be more “green,” than thrifty, because if there is one thing I hate it’s sending a hulk of plastic to the landfill to never decompose because my boys can’t seem to pick up their things. Grrrrr! Can you hear that through your screen?
Have you got other secrets for turning old playthings into new ones? I’d love to hear them!
