Today is the third Thursday of the month. What’s special about a third Thursday? It’s the day of Tacoma’s Art Walk, when area galleries and all three of Tacoma’s major museums offer special extended evening hours and free admission!
Where should you head? As I’ve mentioned on here several times, you can get free passes to the Washington State History Museum and the Tacoma Art Museum through the library*, so I always suggest going to the excellent Museum of Glass, which doesn’t participate in these programs. These evenings are more crowded than other days, but I’ve never known them to be too busy, especially this time of year. At the Museum of Glass you may have to wait a bit for a seat in the hot shop, but it’s worth it to watch the artists at work.
If you haven’t caught the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the TAM, you might want to consider that as well. It’s there through the end of the month.
*Need more scoop on scoring passes from the library? Go Here for the complete rundown on what passes are available from which library and more. If you get one from the King County System, you’ll be virtually checking out a pass from your computer and printing off a confirmation email to show the museum staff. At other libraries you’re actually checking out a physical pass. If you need help with this, just ask a staff member. I promise they’ll know what you’re talking about.
