Here’s your weekend list, friends. I never did hear what the darn groundhog did, but I say, let’s just get out there!
As always, if you’re headed North or South of Sounds Fun Mom territory, I invite you to check out the list over at ThriftyNWMom, courtesy of Sia of-Centsible in Seattle (still love that name).
If you’d prefer to stick closer to home, here are your best bets for South Sound Family Fun this weekend:

Volksmarch and free admission to Northwest Trek. Register to participate in a walk around Trek and get free admission and half off the tram ride. You must participate in the walk to get this deal. 9AM-1PM Saturday; Complete the walk before 3 to get your tram token. This event is also on Sunday.
Family Day at the Karshner Museum in Puyallup Once a month, the museum is open to families with special activities and themed art projects. This month’s theme is African American inventors. The Karshner Museum is a small museum, but it has tons of things that kids can touch and explore. It’s really a treasure! Note: The Family Day info. on the website isn’t current, but I have confirmed this event. 10-2 3.00 per person or 10.00 per family.
Dental Health Fair at the South Hill Mall, Puyallup Goodie bags; possible dental care for qualifying families and appearances by the tooth fairy. Children can bring a drawing showing how they care for their teeth to enter to win a family pass to the zoo. My kids and I did this last year, and while it wasn’t a rip roaring activity, they were pretty happy with their free goody bags! If you think you might qualify for low income dental care, and your kiddos are in need of a check-up, I’d definitely try to make this. It might also be a nice tip to pass on to a friend.
Water Weekend at MAST at Redondo-Ongoing free event on Saturdays from 10-2. Kids can touch sea critters in the tanks and look at other watery residents.
Skippyjon Jones Appearance-See the beloved chihuahua at the Lakewood Barnes and Noble. Thanks to loyal SFM reader, and my pal, Jen, for this tip.
Model Railroad Operators’ Hours at the Washington State History Museum-Once a month, model railroad operators are on hand to answer questions for museum visitors. Included with admission (you can try to get a pass to go for free from the Pierce or King County Library system). The new mummy exhibit has also opened. If you can’t score a pass, there is a bogo coupon in the Entertainment Book. Otherwise, admission is 8.00 for adults and 6.00 for kids (under 5 are free). Plus, you will probably need a few bucks for parking.
Bremerton, Olympia, Graham, Fife, and Puyallup hold their daddy/daughter dancestonight. See this post for the whole list and links.
Sunday
Volksmarch and free admission to Northwest Trek. Register to participate in a walk around Trek and get free admission and half off the tram ride. You must participate in the walk to get this deal. Register between 9AM-12 You must complete the walk before the last tram ride of the day, if you want to ride.
There is a football game on. If you are my preschool pal Rosanna, you may root for the Steelers. Otherwise, any true Seahawk fan is rooting for the Packers-because they’re not the Steelers. Just saying. If you’ve got a favorite football craft, snack, or tradition, feel free to share!
If you use this list to plan your weekend, why not share Sounds Fun Mom with a friend? Did you know you can copy the url into your email and it will turn into a handy link? Fun, huh? I also always love to see new faces at the Facebook page. If you know a great preschool, don’t forget to read about how you can Plug Your Preschool right here at Sounds Fun Mom!
Have a great weekend!
Great list Maegan. I think the NW Trek is one of the best event opportunities I have come across in a long time….now hoping for no rain 🙂
