Ice skating is one of those things that looks way easier (and maybe more fun?) than it is. Let’s face it: There is a reason people don’t normally stand on ice. The stuff is slick!
Still, there is something about ice skating that is so darn Hallmark-y this time of year, and hey, after everyone stumbles glides around for a while, you can get hot cocoa! Now, my personal parenting paranoia is head injuries. If you’re similarly phobic you might consider having your aspiring skater wear a helmet.
The closest ice skating in the South Sound is at Sprinker. This facility has chronic funding problems and was almost shut down last year. For now, it’s open, so have a skate while you can! If you’re thinking about going even twice a year, or your little one just takes to it, they have group lessons for preschoolers and up.
Now, normally an afternoon of skating gets spendy fast. Adult admission is 6.00; students are 5, and children are 4-Plus an additional 2.00 for skate rental. However, during the next two weeks, Sprinker has a number of special Cheap Skate sessions (normally available Wednesdays only). During a cheap skate session you get admission and skates for 5.00. Kids can also do a coloring picture of the rink mascots for free admission. The pictures are available at Sprinker, and it’s one per child. You can get the complete schedule and more info. here. If you don’t see the holiday info. right away, scroll down to the pic. of the penguins.
Rather stick to a more familiar surface? I have a list of every South Sound roller rink right here! Just getting here this week? Be sure to scroll down for what you’ve missed. There have been lots of fun bargains for your family.
