If you’re one of my Puyallup readers you should know about some cheep fun this weekend at Birds of a Feather.
Actually, Birds of a Feather has nothing to do with birds. It’s a little gift shop at 111 W.Meeker, and it’s filled with all kinds of lovely things in a style I’d call country antique. If you’re looking for something special for your mom or girlfriend, it would be a great stop. What’s in it for kids? In the back is a cute section with Osborne books and highly quality toys, mostly Melissa and Doug. There is also a little table and chairs where kids are invited to write to Santa. Now, here’s where the cute comes in: If you remember to leave your child’s name and address, St.Nick will mail your child a personal response, with reindeer food (I’m told it looks a lot like birdseed). That’s Henry mailing his letter in the pic. above.
This weekend you can also get a photo with Santa at Birds of a Feather. A 3×5 photo is just 5.00 or 4.00 with a food donation. If you haven’t gotten in a visit with the big guy yet, this would be a great way to do it while supporting a local business. Now, the shop is crammed with all kinds of goodies, so don’t try to bring a stroller. You’ll also want to talk about not touching, or maybe just hold everyone by the hand. Henry is the kind of kid who wants to touch Everything, and I had a few small heart attacks during the four seconds it took us to find the kids’ section. But…..we made it, and I can’t wait to see his face when he gets his letter.
If you’re not near Puyallup, you should read my post here about other ways to get in touch with St. Nick. If you hurry, you can still get your little ones a letter with a real North Pole postmark!
You could also come up with your own reindeer food. One of my girlfriends claims Santa does trial runs through her neighborhood, and her girls often find reindeer tracks and evidence of their magical ways in the form of glittery stars that have fallen from their hooves (I know….can you stand it??)
Can’t get enough of holiday fun? I’m working on your weekend events list now. Check in tomorrow for more ho ho happenings in your South Sound neighborhood!
