Wow! How about that wind? The forecast is for another storm coming tomorrow, so take advantage of the relative calm today! I have one of our favorite ideas for cheap fun below!
If you weren’t by yesterday, scroll down for a playdate in Old Town Tacoma and an update on the Mega Brands sale in Fife.
Most little boys (and lots of little girls, too) go through a phase when they love anything that goes. Actually, a lot of little boys never grow out of this. I have a project car in my garage to prove it.
Here’s an easy, free outing that will please vehicle fans, young and old.
The link light rail in Tacoma runs between The Tacoma Dome station and the downtown theater area. It’s a short, Free trip, that is just enough of a thrill to be an outing all by itself for the 7 and under set. Ride back and forth to your heart’s content, or if you have older children, get off and see one of the area museums with a free pass from the library. My post about the Tacoma Art Museum might get you started. You could also get a bite from any of several nearby restaurants or explore the UW Tacoma campus. For some reason, my boys love climbing all those stairs.
To ride the link, park in the big transit parking lot at the Tacoma Dome station (don’t confuse this with parking at the Tacoma Dome-totally different thing). Trains run every12-24 minutes. You may want to explain a bit about the link to young children first so they don’t go expecting something like Thomas.
I’ll have future posts about other great options for your train and transport lovers…..including a ride with Santa that is my very favorite holiday bargain.
Later today I have an idea for indoor fun that I’m practically giddy about.
If you’re determined to stay warm, you can always catch a flick for 1.00 at the Starplex today, or browse through the Rainy Day Play section. Be sure to tell me if you have a great find we should know about.
We’re also talking fast food play places over at the fb page today. If you’re not that desperate yet, you will be by Friday! Come join in the conversation!
Don’t forget you still have time to score a one year family membership to the children’s museum in Seattle for just 40.00. This almost pays for itself in one visit, and it’s totally worth it if you do a Seattle outing even twice a year. Just click on the little blue box to your left. It’s super easy, and Savvy Source will even make a donation to a school of your choosing!
The Link is always fun! If the kids are up for a little extra adventure, the parking garage you mention also overlooks the BNSF yard, so if you spend 10-15 minutes up there, you can usually see a train coming through…
Oh, great tip! Thanks for sharing!
