Your Weekend Wrap-Up: Sunday Edition

November 12, 2010 by Maegen Blue

Welcome to Sunday at Sounds Fun Mom! If you’re new here, I write exclusively for the South Puget Sound, and I update with affordable family fun daily. Join our community on Facebook or subscribe to my feed or emails, so you don’t miss a thing!

Here are your best bets for fun in the South Puget Sound for Sunday!

Great Train Expo at the Puyallup fairgrounds   Lots of model trains to look at, trains for kids to ride (this costs extra), and lots of train merchandise for sale. We went to this a few years back and enjoyed it. Just be aware that it’s geared more towards collectors than kids. I’d take a preschooler but not a toddler. You’ll get a kick out of the crowd-half little boys and half grey-haired men. 7.00 for adults; kids free with adult admission

Disney On Ice-This one is a splurge. Reader Sharnee sent in a note about getting discount tickets to weekday shows, and I promptly forgot all about it (oops!). My friend Lisa heard that Toy3 would get you a 25% discount on a pack of 4, but I haven’t been able to make this work. Tickets are also really limited for all shows. Your best bet might be to call the box office directly and ask them what the best deal is.

Caspar Babypants-Chris Ballew of the Presidents headlines this group that is kid friendly and parent approved. Free Concert at the Federal Way library Sunday at 1:00. The site says free tickets will be available at the library desk beginning at 12:30, until they run out. I have no idea how many folks will show up, but I’d get there at 12:30 For Sure, and I wouldn’t tell your little ones what the plan is, just in case. Read more about Caspar in my post here.

Get outside! Sure, it’s a little chilly, but everyone needs some fresh air, right? Throw on some coats and walk the bridge to the beach at Chambers Creek. This link takes you to a TNT article, because it’s the best description I’ve found. Ignore the comments section at the bottom….have you noticed people will gripe about anything on the internet?

Or how about a little mini golf? Local fav. Parkland Putters is closed for the season, but the Putting Zoo in Puyallup is open on weekends through the end of the month. You can score a coupon in the Entertainment Book. Otherwise it’s 6.00 for adults and 3.00 or less for kids (pricing is by height-love it!

For those of you ready to plunge into the holidays, Santa has already arrived at The Tacoma Mall, South Hill Mall in Puyallup, and Southcenter.   He’ll show up on the 20th at The Commons in Federal Way.

This seems way too early for a Santa pic. to me, but I’m tempted to take my guys anyway so I can get photo books done for the grandparents.

If you’d rather get a Free picture with you know who, I’ll have several tips on scoring your shot with St.Nick for nothing in the coming days.

If you’re helping with some of the goodies, I’ll also have an update on the big sale at the Mega Brands warehouse that starts in Fife this week. You’ll kick yourself if you miss it, so don’t forget to check back!

A special thanks to those of you who write in and share your adventures. I love to hear when you do something you found on Sounds Fun Mom!

Thanks Maegan! We hit the Borders today in Fed Way and although they didn’t have storytime (guess it’s hit or miss with the girl that runs it), they did have a fun little craft and b-a-b coupons. The best part though was ‘Read with Rover’ – they had 4 volunteer owners with their dogs and the kids could pet them and read to them. My 5 year old and 2 year old both LOVED it.

Thanks for a fun atypical Saturday activity while Dad is hunting this weekend. You’re great!

Hi Do you know when the sale starts and what the hours are of the store? I have never been but have heard from MIL that it is a great sale.

You’re very welcome! It’s a hard post to find, and kind of a weird way to advertise a sale!

Keep in touch!
