Grab your calendars. Here’s our round up of every community fair and festival in the South Sound for the summer of 2017! We’ll also have these listed in our summer guide, and we’ll include as many as possible in our calendar, too! For now, I hope this inspires some playdates and helps you plan around your favorites. Do let me know if I missed one!
Hands On Summer Splash, Olympia (previously Sand in the City) – June-August. This festival now includes four big events kids will love. More details TBA.
Seafair – June 14- August 6. This is the quintessential Seattle summer tradition, and many of the events are worth the drive at least once with your kiddos. Enjoy the pirates landing at Alki Beach, Fleet Week in August, the Torchlight parade, hydroplane races, and so much more!
June 17th, 11am-5pm. Kick off summer with food truck fare, local food and beverages plus live music. Held at Sehmel Homestead Park, the event is free.
Meeker Days, Puyallup – June 16-18 Friday, 12:00pm-9:00pm, Saturday, 10:00am-9:00pm, Sunday, 10:00am-5:00pm. This annual street fair is a community celebration with kid friendly entertainment, 200 craft vendors, food courts, kids’ activities, car shows, a Farmers’ Market and more!
Yelm Prairie Days Parade – Saturday June 24th, 9:30am. This year’s theme is “Home On the Prairie.”
Auburn Kids Day – June 23rd, 11:00am-4:00pm
This FREE festival includes live entertainment, inflatable rides, arts, crafts, over 100 activity booths, mini golf, large vehicle and equipment display, food concessions and more! Some attractions may have a small fee. Leashed, licensed and well-behaved pets welcome.
Taste of Tacoma at Pt.Defiance – June 23-25th Friday 11:00am-9:00pm, Saturday 11:00am-9:00pm ,Sunday, 11:00am-8:00pm. FREE admission to this popular festival with lots of tasty treats. Have a picnic on the grass with the family, enjoy live entertainment, and check out the Funtastic Carnival with loads of rides and games just for kids! Free “Taste Express” transportation will be provided by Pierce Transit from Tacoma Community College.

Wings and Wheels at the Tacoma Narrows Airport, Gig Harbor – July 2nd Your plane lovers will love this event with a car show, live music and aerial demonstrations. You can also view the aircraft on the ground.
Fireworks at Emerald Downs – Monday, July 3. Celebrate the 4th early at the races! 5-11:30pm. Fireworks Spectacular presented by Carl’s Jr.
Tacoma Freedom Fair – 4th of July 9am-11pm. A full day featuring a firework spectacular, Freedom Fair Air Show, and fun on Ruston Way featuring an airshow, food, vendors, exhibits, rides. This is a big PARTY, which culminates in a huge fireworks show over Puget Sound.
Kent Cornucopia Days July 14-16. South King county’s largest family festival features a street fair, parade, entertainment, and more.
Pacific Days – Friday-Sunday, July 7-9. Music, Craft Vendors, & Food Vendors everyday. Info for 2017 is TBA. In years past, the scheduled has included a kids parade on Friday from 4-9pm. Saturday from 11am-9pm you’ll experience the Grand Parade, raffles, car bash, inflatables, dunk tank, kids games, and more. Sunday from 11am-4pm will feature raffles, a pooch parade, and more. I’m not sure if this info. is correct for 2017-we’ll work on confirming it for you.
SummerFest in Lakewood – Saturday, July 8, 11:00am-11:00pm. FREE all day festival with activities, food, entertainment, car show, Kids Zone and more! See stilt walkers, extreme trampoline and trapeze acts, then finish the day with a free movie showing The Secret Life of Pets at 9:30pm.
Art on the Ave Street Festival– Sunday, July 9, 11:00am – 7:00pm. This festival celebrates the art of Tacoma with booths, kids’ zone, entertainment and more!
Capital Lakefair, Lacey – Wednesday-Sunday, July 12-16. Enjoy a parade, fireworks, and rides. Wristband day is Thursday and are sold from 12-8. For $35 you get unlimited rides plus two free games.
Vashon Island Strawberry Festival – Friday-Sunday, July 21-23. Take a ferry to Vashon for the Grand parade, car show, children’s activities and more, including five stages with music, food, art, and an, “Alternative festival,” with bungee jumps, a climbing wall, and “Hamster,” balls on water! Check here for road closures and shuttle information.
Sequim Lavender Festival – Friday-Sunday, July 21-23 Drive over to the largest lavender event in North America, where you can also enjoy food, live entertainment, a street fair, and farm tours. Admission is FREE.
Covington Days – Saturday/Sunday, July 15, 16. This official SeaFair event includes a parade, carnival, and kids’ activities.
Gig Harbor Summer Arts Festival – July 15, 16, Saturday, times TBA. 140 fine artists and crafters will have their art on display, plus Literary Corner for authors and illustrators. There will also be music, food, and children’s activities.
Family Fun Night at Fort Nisqually – Friday July 15, 6:00pm-9:00pm. Bring a picnic dinner to the Fort, and join in games, dancing, and relay races with the Fort’s re-enactors. There will be ice cream and lemonade on hand while supplies last!
Renton River Days – Friday-Sunday, July 21-23. An annual multi-day family festival featuring events and activities for kids, arts and crafts, reception, food, and live entertainment.
Enumclaw Street Fair – Friday/Saturday, July 28,29 10:00am-7:00pm. This street fair includes a family fun zone with rides and games, live music, craft vendors, family activities, basketball tournament, farmer’s market, and more!
Highland Games, Enumclaw – Friday-Sunday, July 28, 29, 30. Friday 5:30-11pm, Sat 8:00am-11:00pm, Sunday 8:00am-5:30pm. Friday night events are FREE, other days ticket prices start at $17/day with discounts for kids, seniors, military and half-price after 4pm. Parking is $7/day. Get your kilt on at this celebration of all things Scottish, with a Celtic Arts showcase various competitions.
Pacific Northwest Mushroom Festival, Lacey – Saturday/Sunday, July 29-30. Celebrate mushrooms at this Shroom Feast, with a kids’ zone, farm tours, and lots of ‘shroom tasting. Watch for this one on various deal sites! Also, a 5K run plus 1 mile Glow run.
Thurston County Fair, Lacey – August 2-6th, events and times TBA. If you like your fairs more on the old-fashioned/rural side, this is a good one for you!
Proctor Arts Fest – Saturday August 5, 10:00am – 5:00pm. Head to old town for 150 arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment, kids’ area, Farmer’s Market, and more! Admission is FREE!
Renaissance Faire, Bonney Lake – Saturdays/Sundays, August 5-6,12-13, 19-20. Take a trip back to Medieval times at the Faire! Experience pirates, faeries, and a royal masquerade, all with live entertainment!
Pierce County Fair, Graham – Thursday-Sunday, August 10-13 This small fair has lots of animals on display and is an annual celebration of rural life.
Frederickson Community Festival – Saturday, August 12, 9:00am-3:00pm. The annual Freddie Fest features a car show, chili cook-off, and local vendors.
AuburnFest, Auburn Saturday, August 12, 11:00am-8:00pm
Held at Les Gove park, there will be live entertainment, a car show, literary fair plus lots of free kid’s activities.
Washington State International Kite Festival, Long Beach – Specific dates TBA but this festival is held annually during the third full week of August. If you plan to take a trip to the ocean this summer, time it for the Kite Festival and enjoy this week long celebration and competition of all things kite flying.
Bonney Lake Days – Friday/Saturday, August 18-19. This festival is VERY family friendly with Kids Zone, chalk art competition, parade, car show and more!
Kitsap County Fair & Stampede, Bremerton – Wednesday-Sunday, August 23-27 Kids will get a kick out of this event that features a carnival, extreme bulls, stampede and destruction derby.
Kite Festival at Chambers Creek – August 5th, 10:00am-3:00pm. Bring the whole family down to the Central Meadow for an amazing day of kite demonstrations, family kit flying, face painting, and more! The first 250 kids will have an opportunity to make their own kites!
Milton Days– August 18-19. Events and activities TBA.
Harbor Days in Olympia Olympia Harbor Days – Friday – Sunday, September 1 – 3.
This family friendly festival celebrates the return of the vintage tugboats of the Puget Sound to the beautiful waterfront in Olympia. The kids (and curious adults) can climb aboard the tugs on Saturday and older kids might like to hop aboard a historic steamship or tall ship to watch the World’s Largest Vintage Tugboat Races on Sunday. Either day you attend, you will find lots of children’s STEM activities offered by the award winning Olympia Hands On Children’s Museum and the Puget Sound Estuarium. Kids rides include the famous giant purple slide and more. You will find kid friendly food too!! A great annual destination to make wonderful memories.
Washington State Fair/Puyallup Fair – September 1-24th Puyallup. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am – 9 pm. (Closed Tuesdays and 9/6.) Saturday/Sunday, 9am -10 pm. This is the BIG ONE that your kids will talk about for years to come with lots of food, animals, and rides!
Bremerton Blackberry Festival – Saturday-Monday, September 2-4th. This family friendly festival happens right at Bremerton’s waterfront, with lots of food, live entertainment and kids activities.
Roy Rodeo – Saturday/Sunday, September 2,3rd, gates open at 12:00pm. If you’re a rodeo fan, this is a fun one! There will be a variety of events, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, a clown act and more! Cash only at the souvenir booth, food booth, and beer/wine garden.
