Looking for something fun to do with the kids this weekend in Tacoma, Auburn, Lakewood, Olympia, or another South Sound spot?  You’ve come to the right place for a whole list of affordable South Sound fun for kids and families this weekend.

Critter Club at the Pt.Defiance Zoo Animal themed crafts, stories, and special visitors for 3 and 4 year olds. 8.00 members/ 10.00 non members. Fee does not include zoo admission. Preregister to hold your spot. 11AM  Meerkat Madness theme this week

Singing Thanksgiving at the Lakewood Library 11AM Join Harmonica Pocket for an interactive children’s show with sing along songs, dancing and props.

Parents Night out at the Children’s Museum in Tacoma  Registration required 25.00 for first child/ 10.00 for siblings for ages 3-10; must be able to use the bathroom independently.

StoryTime at Southcenter/Tukwila Barnes and Noble 11AM Every Saturday in the children’s section

Water Weekends at HCC Mast at Redondo Every Saturday you can get up close with critters in the touch tanks and learn about sea life from 10-2 Here’s their Facebook page

Saturday Straws and Connectors at the Summit Library Drop in building event from 10-11:30; large blocks provided for small children. Kiddos under 6 should have an adult present while building.


Winter Farmer’s Market in Proctor

Family nature walk at Oak Tree Park with staff from the Tacoma Nature Center 10AM Free; registration requested. Not recommended for under 3s or strollers.

Free showing of Charlotte’s Web at the Grand Cinema Click! Family flick  Doors open at 9:30; movie at 10, free to the first 100  This is the original Charlotte’s Web from 1973.

Yu-Gi-Oh championship at the Tacoma Convention Center

Arctic Animal Play Day at the Point Defiance Zoo Watch arctic animals enjoy special enrichment activities. Included with admission. Zoo admission gets pricey. SFM recommends investing in an annual pass (Christmas gift from grandma?) unless you can take advantage of monthly free days for city of Tacoma residents.

Charlotte’s Web Story Time and Craft at the Fern Hill Library 10:30  Charlotte’s Web is the current Tacoma reads book. Mayor Strickland invites all area families to enjoy this classic together!

Fall movies at Galaxy Uptown  2.00 shows benefit the Jaycox benevolence fund. It’s today. Doors open at 9:30; show at 10 Over the Hedge today. Has anyone seen this one?

Marine Life at the  LOTT Wet Center  Every Saturday the center is open with free, themed activities for the family designed to educate about science and the environment.  Note: Link opens large, pdf file.

Saturday Story time at the Olympia Barnes and Noble 1PM  Ongoing event

Historic Fort Steilacoom: You Are There 2PM A moderator interviews historic figures. Probably a nice event for older, interested children.

Rocket Races at the Olympic Flight Museum Entry 10.00; balsa rocket kit 5.00. If you don’t have time to get this together, it might be a fun thing to watch and plan on for next year with your big kids.

The new Hands-On Children’s Museum in Olympia is open! I’ve heard great things about it! Let me know what you think if you go.

Olympia Family Theater presents an all youth production of Alice in Wonderland Tickets 5-8.00; shows Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoon

 Salmon and Cider Celebration from 11-1 at the McLane Creek Nature Trail in Thurston County ** I double checked with Anne Marie from the Stream Team, and this is the right date.  It’s on fish and wildlife land so you do need a Discover Pass. You can buy an annual pass or a one day option at a dealer or online.

Fantasy Lights Walk  One evening chance to walk-rather than drive-through the lighted displays at Spanaway Lake. You can read more about this event in my post here.
