Looking for South Sound family fun? Kids’ activities in Tacoma, Puyallup, Gig Harbor, or your neck of the woods?

You’ve come to the right place! Here’s my list of fun and affordable things to do with the kids in and around the South Sound this week!

Ongoing: Story time is back at  all area libraries! Every day this week, there are multiple events for all ages. Here is the link for Pierce County (change the date in the calendar on the left). Here is the link for the Tacoma Public Library (change the date in the calendar on the left). If you’re one of my Thurston County readers, here is the link to Timberland regional library. Monday

Veterans Day Observed This means no school and the usual closures;  Expect crowds at most popular kid spots and call to check on closures before you head out.

Rain got you down? I have lists of bounce house places, indoor playgrounds, and malls with soft play sections. Make a play date and grab a little pumpkin latte, why don’t you?

Tacoma Children’s Museum is open today  Normally open to members only on Mondays, but open to all today in honor of Veteran’s Day. Free (pay as you will) entry.

Special public opening of the Kennedy Creek Salmon trail near Olympia

HOCM in Olympia continues its grand opening.   Purchase tickets for timed entry online.

Veterans Day ceremony in Puyallup- 1PM at the Pioneer Park Pavillion Music, speaker, wreath laying

World Renowned Silhouette Artist Karl Johnson creates hand cut silhouettes at Wind up Here Toys in Olympia 10AM-6PM You can see more about his work here.

Tuesday

It’s 1.00 day at the Starplex in Federal Way  Tickets are just 2.00 other days. Madagascar 3 looks like the most kid friendly choice. Avengers and Spider Man are also showing.

Lego Madness at the Parkland Spanaway Library  Drop in and some Lego 4PM for kids in K-5

Fetch With Ruff Ruffman at the Lakewood Library Science club for kids in grades 3-5 based on the popular PBS show. No registration required at this location. 4

Westfield Family Fun Day for Big Kids at Westfield Southcenter Mall 4:30PM Level 1 near Crazy 8 and Starbucks  Holiday cooking tips; kids decorate a recipe journal

Captain John’s Magnificent Arachnids 6:30PM  Tacoma Library’s Captain John shows off a collection of spiders at the Kobetich Library. In honor of the Tacoma Read’s book, Charlotte’s Web

Wednesday

Community Helper Story Time in University Place Meet members of the University Place Police Department at this special, preschool story time. No registration required. 10:30

Story time at the conservatory Nature/Science themed stories and projects at the Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park 11AM

Lego Builders Club at the Lakewood Library 1-3  Drop in event

Fetch Club at the Gig Harbor Library  Science Club for Kids in Grades 3-5 based on the popular PBS series. Registration required  4PM

Fetch Club at the South Hill Library Science Club for kids in grades 3-5 based on the popular PBS series. Registration required. Two times at this location. 2-3 or 4-5 today. This location fills much faster than others. Do make sure to sign up.

Read to a Dog at the Summit Library  Drop in and practice your reading skills with a patient, canine listener 4

Thursday

Creation Station at Learning Sprout Toys in Tacoma Call or check their fb page to confirm

Friends of the Bonney Lake Library used book sale begins at 10AM and continues all weekend

Critter Club at the Pt.Defiance Zoo Animal themed crafts, stories, and special visitors for 3 and 4 year olds. 8.00 members/ 10.00 non members. Fee does not include zoo admission. Preregister to hold your spot. 11AM  Also on Friday Meerkat Madness theme this week

Westfield Family Fun Day for Little Kids  at the Southcenter Mall  Cold weather themed stories and crafts. 2nd level near New Hope church 10AM

Read with a Dog at the Puyallup Public Library  Drop in and practice your reading skills with a patient canine listener 3:30

Post it Note art event at the Puyallup Public Library  Turn the handy stick tools into works of art. For kids in grade 3 and up. Free, no registration required. 3:45

Chess Club is back at the Gig Harbor Library Kids in kindergarten and up are invited to drop in each week for 20 minutes of instruction and 40 minutes of game play 6-7 PM

Sale at the Mega Brands Warehouse in Fife begins today.

It’s a Third Thursday in Tacoma. Enjoy free admission and extended hours at all the major museums downtown-now includes the LeMay!

Friday

Nature Alphabet At the Tacoma Nature Center10:30 Nature themed story time for preschoolers  Registration and fees required W is for Whale today

Kids Night out at the STAR center in Tacoma 6-9:30PM  Games, pizza, and a movie for kids 6-12. 15.00 per child/10.00 for STAR pass holders Tell ‘em you saw it on SFM, won’t you?

Parents Night out at the Children’s Museum in Tacoma  Registration required 25.00 for first child/ 10.00 for siblings for ages 3-10; must be able to use the bathroom independently.
