O.K…..I’m a couple days late, but in the spirit of the New Year, I thought I’d take a look back at Sounds Fun Mom in 2010. If you’re new to the site, you can see what you missed!
I’ve done some 200 posts since launching in mid-September (phew!), and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate those of you who have read every one of ’em! I compiled this list using a complicated formula combining posts that got the most views, with posts that got the most comments, and posts that were the most fun to write. I had to cheat a little to make it a Top 10 (hey-try choosing your favorite kid). Let me know if I left out your favorite.
Sounds Fun Mom Top 10 Posts of 2010
10. City Blocks. A great, rainy weather stop in Tacoma. Your kids can Lego for free and see some amazing creations. I think I enjoyed this one even more than my “staff.”
9.Play time at Rainbow Systems. From the “Who knew?” file…I had a lot of fun letting you know that kids can play for free at the Rainbow showroom in Algona (no purchase required)! Check this one out when the weather warms up.
8. Swan Creek-Even you moms in the know told me you had never done this easy, underused hike near Tacoma.
7.Snowflake making-A recent post, I heard from many of you that this was just the cure for the winter break blahs.
6.The indoor playground list and the bounce house list. I get hits every day from area moms searching for this scoop. I always wanted One place with all these listings, and I’m glad so many of you did, too! I’ve also had readers give me updates on schedule changes at these facilities, and I really appreciate that!
5.The Webcast List In what was really a big deal for me, I got to meet and chat with Angela Russell of The Coupon Project. Several of you found me after this aired, and this post listed the events I mentioned during her webcast. I’ve also gotten more readers thanks to generous mentions by Jen of ThriftyNWmom, Heather at QueenBeeCoupons and Amber at CouponconnectionsNW. I hope to work with more area bloggers in 2011, but I’ll just tell you that these gals have been incredibly responsive and generous with their time.
4.Veteran’s Day-Hits before and on Veteran’s Day were bananas as many of you were clearly a little desperate for some way to recognize our nation’s heros with your kiddos. We came up with some good ones, but I’ll definitely put my nose to the grindstone on this one for next year. I had three times the normal traffic these days.
3.Holiday events-My posts on sleigh rides at the Old Cannery, the Santa Train at Camp Six, and area Nutcrackers got tons of traffic. I’m especially proud of the Nutcracker list, the most comprehensive one in the South Sound. Look for all this info. in a special “Holiday Guide,” next year.
2.Apple Picking at Terry’s Berries This post was mentioned on The Coupon Project. Between Angela’s readers and mine, the little store at Terry’s was Packed, but I heard from many of you that this was a wonderful time with your family anyway. Btw, the Sounds Fun Mom gang didn’t make it until the very last open weekend-in the pouring rain and slopping mud. Hey, no lines! This is a Fall event, but there will be lots of fun Farmer’s Markets and other fresh fun coming this Spring. I’ll have it all for you here!
1.Mega Brands Sale-Mega Brands holds this annual bargain event without much publicity at all, which was good news for Sounds Fun Mom, and my deal seeking readers! This also got mentioned by area bargain bloggers. I’ll let you know when I get scoop on another one.
Oh, and one more……for reasons I cannot fathom, every day I get Google hits from people all over wanting to know what sound a reindeer makes. I finally did a whole post about it-hey, I aim to please! Now, why people are continuing to try to find out about reindeer noise, I cannot say. Why I am the world wide web expert on the subject is an even bigger mystery!
If the whole thing just smacked of reruns to you, I promise I’ll be back with some fresh stuff in just a bit.
I have big plans for Sounds Fun Mom in 2011, and I’d also love to hear what you’d like to see! Really! Unless you’re going to ask me to use fewer explanation points….I just can’t commit to that right! now!
